WSU’s Tucker ties for first

Kevin Tucker finished in a first-place tie and Washington State finished fifth as a team Sunday at the Desert Intercollegiate golf tournament in Palm Desert, Calif.

Idaho finished second with a team score of 884, seven strokes behind Colorado State. Washington State shot 896.

Tucker shot even-par 72 on Sunday to finish tied with Daniel Wax of Denver. Wax was declared the champion, based on a lower final-round score (68).

Men’s soccer

Ben Funkhouser scored on a 30-yarder in overtime to give Gonzaga a 2-1 victory over visiting Santa Clara in a West Coast Conference match.

It was the second game-winning goal of Funkhouser’s career as the Bulldogs improved to 5-4-1, 2-1-0 WCC. Santa Clara is 2-6-2, 0-2-0.

•John Brookover scored twice to lead Whitworth to a 3-2 overtime win over visiting Whitman.

The win vaulted the 20th-ranked Pirates (8-1-1, 4-1 NWC) into first place in the Northwest Conference ahead of the Missionaries (5-1-5, 3-1-1).

Women’s soccer

Gonzaga wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 0-0 match against Weber State at Ogden, Utah.

Lauren Ames made a career-high 12 saves for the shutout. Gonzaga is 5-6-2; Weber State 3-6-2.

•Seattle University defeated Eastern Washington 2-0 as the Eagles concluded their non-conference season.

•Montana (3-7-1) defeated Idaho (1-10-1) 2-0 in a non-conference match at Missoula.

Crew

Washington State wrapped up the Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, placing all four of its women’s open pairs boats in the top six and both of its women’s collegiate four boats in the top three.
