Uncontested races

Many candidates face no opposition in the Nov. 4 general election.

In Washington, they include:

• State Rep. Joel Kretz, R-Wauconda, a two-term member of the state House of Representatives from the 7th legislative district.

• State Sen. Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, completing his first term in the state Senate representing the 9th legislative district after 10 years in the state House of Representatives.

• Supreme Court justices Mary Fairhurst, Charles W. Johnson and Debra Stevens.

• Division III Appeals Court judges Kevin M. Korsmo and Stephen M. Brown.

• Spokane County Superior Court judges Annette Plese and Linda G. Tompkins.

In Idaho, they include:

• State Sen. Shawn Keough, R-Dover, a six-term state lawmaker currently serving as vice-chair of the Senate Finance Committee. Initially, state documents showed Keough facing Democratic placeholder Lew Langness in the general election, even though Langness had withdrawn. Elections officials say they caught the error in time to get the name removed from most, if not all, ballots before they were printed.

• State Rep. Mary Lou Shepherd, D-Wallace, a four-term member of the state House of Representatives from the 2nd legislative district.

• State Sen. Mike Jorgensen, R-Hayden, representing Idaho’s 3rd legislative district.

• State Rep. James Clark, R-Hayden Lake, a five-term member of the state House of Representatives from the 3rd legislative district.

• State Rep. Phil Hart, R-Athol, a two-term member of the state House of Representatives from the 3rd legislative district.

• State Sen. Jim Hammond, R-Post Falls, a member since 2006 of the state Senate representing Idaho’s 5th legislative district.

• State Rep. Bob Nonini, R-Coeur d’Alene, a two-term member of the state House of Representatives from the 5th legislative district.

• State Rep. Frank Henderson, R-Post Falls, a two-term member of the state House of Representatives from the 5th legislative district.

• Former assistant U.S. Attorney Barry McHugh, a Republican seeking the job of Kootenai County prosecutor.
