Cheney road projects completed
Water main leaks should be fixed before snowfall
Along with the passing of summer comes the passing of road construction season.
Several projects in Cheney have been under way during the summer months, and Todd Ableman, interim public works director, said those projects are finished, with the exception of part of a water main that had some leaks.
“They were finished in time,” Ableman said.
Spokane Transit Authority granted the city $145,400 to help restore the street and sidewalks between State Road 904 and Salnave Road on Presley Drive.
There were several residential road and sidewalk projects this year, including north Third Street from Elm Street to Nolan Brown Place, Fourth Street from North Second to Clay, Third from Pine to Clay Street and Mary Street from First to Seventh.
The city also completed work on water mains on Mary from Second to Fifth and on north Sixth from Oak to Elm.
Ableman added that leaks were discovered in the water main on North Third Street. The city should begin working on a 250-foot stretch of the main either this week or next and estimates that workers should complete paving over that project before the first snowfall.
Ableman said the grand total of city funds spent was $712,000. The city received $140,500 in Community Development Block Grants and the grant from STA for construction projects. The city also matched 21 percent of the STA grant, which included funds that went into construction and funds that went toward engineering.
