Stevens County Fire plans two forums
Stevens County Fire Protection District No. 1 Fire Commissioners will hold two community forums to discuss the state of the fire district and the potential impacts of the anticipated 2009 budget shortfall.
The meetings will be Tuesday at Lakeside Middle School in Suncrest and Wednesday at the Old Schoolhouse in Loon Lake, Wash. Both meetings will start at 7 p.m.
The district covers southern Stevens County and serves the communities of Clayton, Loon Lake, Deer Lake, Springdale, Ford, Tum Tum, Williams Valley and Suncrest. It has eight fire stations, daytime staffing of five career firefighters and 65 volunteers.
The fire district has placed Proposition 2, a levy lid-lift proposal, on the November election ballot.
The fire district is seeking input on service delivery issues that will be impacted by the election. Discussion items will include the district’s continued involvement in school safety programs, sponsoring community events such as “chipper days” and the relationship of on-duty staffing and how it impacts response times to emergencies.
