Business group gives $4 million to Rossi
A conservative business group has upped the ante in the governor’s race by putting another $4 million into its campaign.
The political action committee It’s Time For A Change recently posted the huge contribution to help Republican Dino Rossi win the governor’s election. Rossi is running a close rematch with Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire.
Most of the money comes from the Building Industry Association of Washington, a major Rossi supporter.
That trade group has been under fire from Gregoire allies, who accuse the BIAW of illegally coordinating its fundraising with Rossi. The group and Rossi deny wrongdoing.
Rossi and Gregoire have raised almost $20 million combined in the most expensive election in Washington history.

Hazmat team responds to threat
A threatening letter mailed to a Spokane homeowner sparked a response from a hazardous materials team Tuesday.
The powdery substance turned out to be white flour, said Spokane Fire Battalion Chief Mike Inman.
The Spokane Fire Department team responded to the area of West Walton and North Alberta about 11:35 a.m. and determined the threat was credible, officials said. The powder was then tested.
Once firefighters determined the substance was not dangerous, Spokane police and the U.S. Postal Service took over the investigation, Inman said. The letter did not appear to have been mailed locally.
Man, 19, missing for eight days
Spokane police are seeking the public’s help in finding a 19-year-old man who went missing more than a week ago.
Douglas Holmes arrived in Spokane on Oct. 4 from Atlantic City, N.J., police said. Holmes is considered at risk because he might have mental health problems, police said.
He was last seen eight days ago wearing black shorts, a black jersey with a green and white No. 5 on it, white sneakers and possibly a black parka with a hood.
Police ask anyone with information of Holmes’ whereabouts to call 911.
