Couple sentenced to federal prison for fraud
A husband and wife who once operated two Coeur d’Alene businesses have been sentenced to federal prison for defrauding Bankruptcy Court and a lender, respectively.
Craig Alan Burgess, 41, admitted in federal court last year that he concealed $22,000 in assets in a bankruptcy filing. He was sentenced Sept. 29 to a year in federal prison, according to a statement Tuesday from the U.S. attorney’s office in Boise.
Nancy G. Burgess, 46, admitted to using a false name and Social Security number to obtain an $80,000 loan from Washington Trust Bank. She was sentenced to four years in federal prison, the release said.
The Burgesses owned and operated Red Rooster Trading, a kitchen-supply store, and Little Seattle, a coffee shop.
Craig Burgess filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in 2001 using the name Gerald May, then sold the coffee shop without alerting the Bankruptcy Court or turning over the proceeds.
