Basketball coaches sought
Volunteer coaches are urgently needed for the Midnight Basketball League. For the past eight years, Hoopfest has partnered with Spokane Public Schools and conducted the Midnight Basketball League. The program is for students in grades 6 through 8 who attend schools within the district’s central urban neighborhoods.
Approximately 300 students have participated in Midnight Basketball. Chad Smith, operations manager for Hoopfest, said, “This program provides a safe and positive environment for many children, which allows them to learn about teamwork and sportsmanship while giving them the tools they need to combat social challenges they face on a daily basis.”
The first coaches meeting will take place today, and the league will run from next Thursday through Nov. 15. One-hour practices will be held on Thursdays with games and workshops on Saturdays.
Those interested in serving as volunteer coaches are asked to contact Chad Smith at 624-2414, Ext. 14, or e-mail chad@spokanehoopfest.net.
