GU students plan cleanup
Gonzaga University students are inviting residents in the surrounding Logan Neighborhood to join them Saturday in a volunteer cleanup project in the neighborhood adjacent to the university.
The group is meeting at 1 p.m. at the traffic circle on Desmet Avenue east of the Administration Building. The university is supplying bags and gloves for the two-hour effort, intended to build relationships between the campus and community. The project is being called “take back the neighborhood,” according to Karen Byrd, chair of the Logan Neighborhood Council.
North Spokane County
Library plans used-book sale
The Friends of the North Spokane County Library plans its semi-annual used-books sale on Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the library at 44 E. Hawthorne Road.
Hardback books will sell for $1, paperbacks for 50 cents. Proceeds are used for programs including the Spokane Is Reading programs for children, teens and adults; purchase of Early Literacy Station and staff development.
The books for the sale are obtained through donations from individuals. Membership in the Friends group is open to anyone interested in helping further literacy and reading in the community.
Five Mile Prairie
Grange plans open meeting Tuesday
The Five Mile Prairie Grange will host an open meeting on “Your Issues, Your Grange” Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., at the grange hall (corner of Strong Road and Five Mile Road) on Five Mile Prairie.
Legislative leaders from the Washington state Grange will discuss issues critical to Five Mile Prairie and how the grange can help put ideas into action.
