Family donates scholarship money

The Cheney Public Schools Dollars for Scholars program has received a $90,000 donation from the Foy family.

Hugh Foy was a teacher and principal at Marshall School from 1949 to 1959. When Marshall School closed in 1959, Foy taught at Cheney High School until 1962. Foy’s wife, Kathleen (Bunnie) Foy also taught at Marshall from 1949 to 1959 and at Windsor and Betz until 1962.

Their children, Donna Helmer, Rita Brodie and Jacquita Bruso, were all graduates of Cheney High School.

The Hugh and Bunnie Foy Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Cheney High School. The student who receives the award may use the funds to attend a vocational school, a community college or a four-year college or university.

Anyone interested in applying for the scholarship must complete the Dollars for Scholars general application.
