Cooper Elementary hitting the big 100

Rainey Coffin

Cooper Elementary’s 100th birthday will be celebrated tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Festivities include an “over the years” pictorial, along with a display of the contents from the school’s unearthed time capsule from the 1980-1981 academic year. Students have also created a historical events timeline that includes 1895 to 1908, when the school was Minnehaha School, and from 1908 to present, as Cooper Elementary.

Students will continue the celebration with their singing and drumming, and there will, of course, be cake.

Join the party at Cooper Elementary at 3200 N. Ferrall St.

Call Shawna Fraser at 354-2499 for more information.

Child safety events

Madison Elementary, 319 W. Nebraska Ave., and Audubon Elementary, 2020 W. Carlisle Ave., are hosting Subway Child Safety/Identification on Friday. The event at Madison will begin at 9 a.m. and the event at Audubon will begin at 2 p.m.

Subway representatives have partnered with the Spokane Police Department with the goal to provide children and their parents with safety training and free Subway Child ID kits.

According to a press release from Subway, the National Childhood Identification program estimates that every 40 seconds a child becomes lost or goes missing. Friday’s events at Madison and Audubon Elementary will give parents the tools to keep their kids safe.

McGruff the Crime Dog will also be stopping by the schools.

Carnival at Adams

The third annual PTG Fall Festival and Carnival will be held at Adams Elementary, 2909 E. 37th Ave., on Friday. The celebration will begin at 6 p.m. and the fun won’t end until 8 p.m.

The festivities include a cake walk, decorated by Adams All-Star students, a cake decorating contest, games, food and more.

Tickets will be available in advance, six for $1, or on Friday, four for $1, and can be used for food and/or games.

Call Adams Elementary at 354-2000 for more information.
