Bomb threat called hoax
The devilish-sounding man warning of a bomb didn’t exist. Neither did the bomb.
And a teenager and a pal could face charges after an alleged hoax prompted Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies and a bomb-sniffing dog to scour his parents’ home on West Nelson Loop Road in Rathdrum on Wednesday night.
Two confusing calls came to Tony Young and Doni Crawford’s home that night: Caller ID said the caller was using Young’s cell phone, but Crawford couldn’t understand the caller. Young confirmed his phone was in his truck, and the couple assumed it was malfunctioning and calling them by itself.
When the family’s line rang a third time, the son took the call. He told his parents he’d heard a “satanic” voice warn the family to get out because of a bomb, the Sheriff’s Department said. Deputies said Thursday the calls were a hoax planned by the teen and a friend, who also could be charged.
