Three Chiefs selected for Challenge

Spokane Chiefs defensemen Jared Cowen and Jared Spurgeon and goalie Dustin Tokarski will be part of Team WHL that will compete against the Russian junior team in the Canada-Russia Challenge Nov. 17-27.

The sixth annual Canada-Russia Challenge pits Canadian Hockey League all-star teams from each of its three member leagues (WHL, OHL and QMJHL) against the Russians in a six-game series. Team WHL plays Nov. 26 in Swift Current and Nov. 27 in Prince Albert.

Volleyball

Melissa Osterloh had 29 kills to lead the host Utah State Aggies (9-14, 7-5 WAC) to a 23-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 15-11 victory over the Idaho Vandals (14-8, 7-4) in Logan, Utah.

•Amy Roberts had 11 kills and the Montana Grizzlies (10-11, 6-5) defeated the Eastern Washington Eagles 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 in Big Sky Conference play at Missoula.

It was the first loss for EWU (12-10, 7-4) in Missoula since 1999.
