Petrino’s son Lights’ QB

Associated Press

HAVRE, Mont. – The son of Arkansas Razorback head coach Bobby Petrino has been named the starting quarterback for Montana State-Northern’s season opener.

Nick Petrino is a redshirt freshman who transferred to Northern and beat out junior Jeff Van Nest in fall camp. Petrino is the nephew of Lights head coach Mark Samson.

Northern is Petrino’s third school in as many semesters. He redshirted at NAIA school Georgetown of Kentucky in fall 2007 before transferring to NCAA Division II program Arkansas Tech in spring 2008.

Samson says Petrino was the more athletic of the two quarterbacks, but both will play against Rocky Mountain College on Saturday.

Petrino’s father, Bobby, was an All-America quarterback at Carroll College. He took over at Arkansas in December after leaving the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons midseason.
