WSU golf places third

With two players in the top 10, Washington State finished third at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational men’s golf tournament at USAFA, Colo., on Sunday.

WSU’s Kevin Tucker posted a three-round total of 211 (-5) to place fifth and Nick Grigsby shot 215 to tie for ninth place. Grigsby was 1-under (71) on Sunday and Tucker shot even par.

WSU’s three-day total of 865 was 1 over par. Colorado State won at minus-27 and UNLV was minus-16.

Women’s soccer

Freshman Liz Boyden made three saves to gain her first career shutout as Idaho defeated Idaho State 2-0 in the closing game of the Idaho Governor’s Cup in Moscow, Idaho.

Anna Edmonds and Jenn Hull scored for the Vandals (1-3). Idaho State fell to 2-3.

Boyden, Desirae Hull, Ashley Perez and Danielle Raczykowski made the all-tournament team for Idaho.

•Elysse Van Leer’s second-half goal lifted Washington State into a 1-1 tie against No. 13 West Virginia at the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.

•Sheridan Jones scored in the first half and Gonzaga held on to defeat Cal State Bakersfield 1-0 at the Gonzaga Soccer Field.

Lauren Ames made three saves in her fourth career shutout for the Bulldogs (3-2-0). Bakersfield fell to 3-3-0.

•Tenth-ranked Whitworth defeated Cal State East Bay 2-1 at Hayward, Calif.

Penelope Crowe scored the game-winner in the 57th minute.

•No. 22 Missouri scored three goals in the second half to defeat Eastern Washington 3-0 at Berkeley, Calif.

•North Idaho College defeated the University of Great Falls 3-0 at Coeur d’Alene.

Jennifer Putnam, Jenny Dimmler and Lauren Linford scored for NIC (4-2). Alicia Kahler made for saves and Amanda Wemple three for the Cardinals.

Men’s soccer

Scott Barnum made seven saves in his first start for Gonzaga and the Bulldogs tied Oregon State 0-0 at the Stephen Hensor/Joe Zaher Memorial Diadora Classic at Corvallis, Ore. Gonzaga is 0-1-1 and the Beavers are 1-2-1.
