Fans pitch in to clean up race park

More than 200 racers, race fans and friends of Spokane County Motorsports Park, formerly Spokane Raceway Park, helped clean up the grounds Sept. 7, picking up trash, pulling weeds, tearing down old buildings and removing tires for recycling.

Spokane County recently purchased the site, which includes a sports car road course, a quarter-mile drag strip and a half-mile stock car oval.

Local governments and private citizens brought their own equipment and volunteered to fill up dumpsters during the daylong event.
