Sooners take top spot in poll
Oklahoma sits atop the AP Top 25 after the first upset-filled weekend of the season gave the media poll a powerful shake. Alabama was both a mover and a shaker, as the Crimson Tide rose to No. 2 after a surprising 41-30 pounding of Georgia.
Oklahoma received 43 of a possible 65 first-place votes and 1,599 points.
LSU is No. 3, moving up two spots. No. 4 Missouri, which received a first-place vote, and No. 5 Texas also moved up two places and left the top five under the control of the Big 12 (three teams) and SEC (two).
Previously top-ranked USC dropped eight spots to No. 9 after losing to Oregon State.

Coaches poll tough on Tide
Who knew there was a group of people who detest Alabama coach Nick Saban even more than sportswriters do?
Saban’s Crimson Tide, who pounded previous No. 3 Georgia on Saturday, earned 21 of 65 first-place votes from writers in the Associated Press poll but just two of 61 in the USA Today coaches poll.
And the coaches poll is the one that counts for the Bowl Championship Series standings, the first of which will be unveiled Oct. 19.
But Saban need not fret over the long run. The BCS title game is being set up to feature the Southeastern Conference champion against the Big 12 champion. Both polls’ top five have three Big 12 teams — Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas — and two from the SEC — Alabama and LSU.
Then again, the regular season is just one-third in the books, so there’s still a ton of time to ponder the possibilities.
