Callero leaves Seattle U.

Seattle University basketball coach Joe Callero is leaving the school, after the program’s return to Division I competition, to take over at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in California.

Seattle athletics spokesman Jason Behenna told the Associated Press that Callero gave notice Thursday and was to be introduced today at a news conference in San Luis Obispo.

Last season, Callero coached the Redhawks to a 13-8 record in their return to Division I ball. The wins included victories against Louisiana Tech, Eastern Washington and Loyola Marymount.

Callero had a record of 117-105 in eight years, with five winning seasons.

Georgia hires Fox

In a surprise move, Georgia has hired Nevada’s Mark Fox to replace Dennis Felton.

Georgia will announce the hire at a news conference this morning, a person with knowledge of the hire confirmed on Thursday night.

Vols, Pearl make deal

Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl has a newly renegotiated six-year contract keeping him with the Volunteers.

Butler extends Stevens

Butler coach Brad Stevens has agreed to a contract extension with the Bulldogs through the 2015-16 season.

Dandridge top dunker

New Mexico’s Tony Dandridge beat Charlotte’s Charlie Coley III in the college slam-dunk contest at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Mich.

Miami’s Jack McClinton won the men’s 3-point contest, beating Erik Kangas of nearby Oakland University 22-17 in the final.

Furman’s Melissa Liebschwager beat Arizona State’s Briann January 19-14 in the women’s 3-point final, but lost 17-15 to McClinton in a battle of the sexes.

Women’s Wooden team

Oklahoma’s Courtney Paris and Connecticut teammates Maya Moore and Renee Montgomery are among five players on the John R. Wooden women’s All-American team.

Joining them were Louisville’s Angel McCoughtry and Maryland’s Kristi Toliver. Paris will lead Oklahoma against McCoughtry’s team in the national semifinals Sunday. Moore and Montgomery lead the Huskies against Stanford in the other semifinal in St. Louis.

Paris became the first woman named to the Wooden All American team four times.
