In brief: 2 Cougars qualify for hurdles final

Washington State’s Jeshua Anderson and Barry Leavitt were among nine 400-meter hurdlers Thursday to advance from preliminaries to the final at the 82nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Austin, Texas.

Anderson, a sophomore and the defending champion, ran the second-fastest prelim of the day, 51.19 seconds.

Leavitt’s time of 51.97 gave the senior the third-best time of the day.

The final is set for Saturday.

No Cougars women advanced to the final in the 400 hurdles.

WSU’s Phil MacArthur (Selkirk High) placed 12th in the men’s hammer throw at 180 feet, 2 inches.

Prep baseball

Four scheduled Greater Spokane League games were postponed by the weather.

Tentative makeup dates and times are: Mt. Spokane at Rogers, 4 p.m. today; Shadle Park at Mead, 1 p.m. today; University vs. Lewis and Clark at Hart Field, 4 p.m. Saturday; and Central Valley at East Valley, 4 p.m. today.
