Flashlight Egg Hunt Saturday evening

The 11th annual Flashlight Egg Hunt will be on Saturday at Hays Park, 1700 E. Providence Ave. and Crestline Street. The hunt begins at 7:45 p.m. for kids ages 4-6, 8:30 p.m. for kids ages 7-9, and 8:45 p.m. for kids ages 10-13.

The Easter event features glo-bunnies to help hunters find eggs filled with candy and prizes. A flashlight, bag, and weather-appropriate clothing are required for all participants.

Cost is $8 per child. Pre-registration is required by Friday.

The event is a fundraiser for Kids-Helping-Kids. Proceeds will support scholarships for low-income children in the Hillyard community.

Riverfront Park

5,000 eggs to be hidden in park

Kix 96 and Riverfront Park will host the annual Easter Egg Hunt in the Park on Saturday at noon.

Children are asked to arrive early at the Looff Carrousel, where they will be divided into age-appropriate groups. Approximately 5,000 plastic eggs filled with prizes are being given away by Kix 96 at the event.

Spokane Community College

Author will speak on food supply

Paul Roberts, author of “The End of Food,” will speak at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St., in the Lair-Student Center auditorium, Building 6, on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. He is a keynote speaker in the President’s Speakers Series.

Roberts has been a journalist since 1983 and has also written “The End of Oil: On the Edge of a Perilous New World.” He lectures and writes on economics, technology and the natural world and has been published in the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Newsweek, the Christian Science Monitor and Rolling Stone.

The event is co-sponsored by Eastern Washington University’s GetLit! Festival and the Hagan Foundation Center for the Humanities at SCC, and is free and open to the public.
