RiverHawks lose doubleheader

The Kelowna Falcons put a serious crimp in the playoff hopes of the Spokane RiverHawks on Saturday.

West Coast League East Division second-place Kelowna (20-21) rolled to a 3-2, 5-3 doubleheader sweep of the RiverHawks (18-25) at the Patterson Baseball Complex to open a three-game lead over third-place Spokane.

Kelowna has seven games remaining in the regular season, while Spokane has five. The teams square off today in the finale of the four-game series.

Matt Summers earned the win in Kelowna’s opening 3-2 victory. He allowed two runs in four innings. Because it was a doubleheader, both games were seven innings.

Jason Brunansky, Billy Moon and Matt Orloff each had two hits for Spokane. The RiverHawks trailed 3-0 after three innings before scoring both their runs in the top of the fourth.

Spokane took a 1-0 first-inning lead in the nightcap, but the Falcons scored four runs off RiverHawks starter Jake Perkins to take the lead for good. Eric Johnson’s two-run single and Dwight Tanaka’s two-run double did the damage.
