Registration open for kids NFL event

POST FALLS – Post Falls Parks and Recreation is registering children for NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick. The program is for boys and girls ages 8-15.

Pre-register at the Parks and Recreation office, on the first floor of City Hall, before Aug. 19. On-site registration will begin Aug. 19, from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at Warren Field, First Avenue and Idaho Street. Competition begins at 6 p.m.

The event is free.

Puppet shows, family walk coming up

COEUR D’ALENE – Family programs available this month at the Coeur d’Alene Library, 702 E. Front Ave., include Puppet Palooza from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday and Aug. 19. The Summer Youth Staff will put on puppet shows that kids and parents will enjoy.

The family fun will head outside Aug. 18 for a Mudgy & Millie Family Walk. The two characters are from a children’s book. The 2.4-mile walk will begin at the Mudgy & Millie statue at the Third Street entrance to Tubbs Hill at 5:15 p.m.

Prizes and balloons will be provided.

Permaculture film Tuesday at library

SANDPOINT – Sandpoint Transition Initiative will present the film “Farming With Nature” at the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St., at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The film is a documentary on the Sepp and Veronica Holzer permaculture farm in the Austrian Alps, illustrating how they grow perennial and annual crops, work with nature and refrain from using pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Their farm profitably grows crops – including cherries, apples and zucchini – at 4,000-foot elevation.

They also sell their products to restaurants and visitors, and they have become an education center, inspired several scientific research projects on their farm and boosted the local economy.

The 40-minute film will be followed by a discussion, led by permaculture designer Richard Kuhnel.
