NFL: Mark Sanchez, the New York Jets rookie quarterback, will get his first career start against the Baltimore Ravens – coach Rex Ryan’s former team – in a preseason “Monday Night Football” game on Aug. 24.

“I have my work cut out for me,” Sanchez said Sunday.

Sanchez came into the 23-20 loss to the Rams on Friday with 28 seconds left in the first quarter and threw a 48-yard pass to David Clowney on his opening play. He completed 3 of 4 passes for 88 yards in one series that was capped by Thomas Jones’ 1-yard touchdown dive.

Meanwhile, Kellen Clemens, entering his fourth season, was 4 of 4 for 24 yards and was sacked once – and lost a fumble – in two series.

“I’m in a competition with a guy who obviously has some pretty serious ability,” Clemens said. “I don’t rank myself all that low, either.”

Saints kicker expects suspension: New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley plans to serve a four-game suspension when the regular season begins because he tested positive for a banned stimulant.

Hartley said he obtained the Adderall prescription pills from a friend and used them to stay awake while driving at night from Dallas to New Orleans for an offseason workout.

Saints coach Sean Payton said Hartley’s situation was the primary reason the club signed 45-year-old kicker John Carney on Saturday night.

Texans’ Grossman hurt: Rex Grossman, Houston’s third-string quarterback, is expected to miss about a month with a hamstring injury and the Texans are looking to sign another quarterback to fill in until he’s healthy.

Coach Gary Kubiak says the Texans could bring back former Washington State quarterback Alex Brink, who was with the team last season.

Police said they found the human growth hormone Hygetropin in Angle’s car, and the wrestler told them he had a prescription for the drug. He also told officers he had not seen the woman and was looking for a hotel because he was barred from his home.

Angle, the heavyweight champion of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, was scheduled to appear in a TNA Wrestling event Sunday night in Orlando, Fla. A spokesman said Angle’s match would go on.
