In brief: Immunizations available free for students

Spokane County – Free immunization clinics for viruses including chicken pox, measles, mumps, rubella and other vaccinations normally required for public schools are being offered in Spokane, West Valley and Mead school districts.

The vaccinations are available to students age 18 and younger.

The program is being administered by the Spokane Regional Health District through a grant from the Group Health Foundation.

The clinics are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Arlington Elementary School, 6363 N. Smith St., Spokane; 3 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 27 at Ness Elementary, 9512 E. Cataldo Ave.; 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 28 and 31 at Centennial Middle School, 915 N. Ella Road; 3 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 1 at Farwell Elementary, 13005 N. Crestline St.; and 3 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 2 at Shiloh Hills Elementary, 505 E. Stonewall Ave.

Group putting on fashion, variety show tonight

DOWNTOWN – The group Models For Awareness will host “The House of Penitence,” an interactive fashion and variety show, at the Masonic Temple, 1108 W. Riverside Ave., today at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are a $10 donation. Proceeds benefit the Steps of Faith Missions, based in Dallas.

David Ruff named to crisis nursery board

EAST CENTRAL – The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004 E. Eighth Ave., recently announced David Ruff, of Coffman Engineers, as a new board member.

Coffman will join the board of 18 trustees in his new position this month.

The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect.

Moonlight golf tournament planned

CHENEY – Cheney Parks and Recreation will hold its Second Annual Moonlight Golf Tournament Sept. 11 at the Fairways at West Terrace, 9810 W. Melville Road, Cheney.

Registration deadline is Aug. 28, and only 18 teams of four will be accepted. The $40 per person or $160 per team fee will include dinner, greens fee, glow ball and necklace. Extra glow balls will be available for purchase.

The evening kicks off with dinner and check-in at 6:30 p.m.; tee-off will be at 7:45 p.m. Golfers should wear walking shoes because no carts are allowed at night.

Proceeds will go toward payments on a recently purchased shuttle bus.
