Badgers blank Maniacs

Andre Zarate tallied a pair of goals and an assist and the visiting Bonners Ferry Badgers (1-3, 1-0) opened Intermountain League play with a 3-0 victory over the Orofino Maniacs (0-1, 0-1) on Saturday.

Hayden Wakkinen assisted on both of Zarate’s goals and Zarate picked up his assist on a goal by Carey Renolds.

In non-league play between Inland Empire League teams, Adam Borsheim scored twice, Scott McMurdie added a goal and an assist and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings (3-0-1) scored four unanswered goals to rally for a 4-1 victory over the visiting Moscow Bears (1-1). … Anders Nostahl found the net in each half and Vac Linscott and Tanner Williams also scored to lead the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs (2-0-1) to a 4-1 win over the Lakeland Hawks (0-3).

Girls soccer

In non-league action between IEL teams, Meghan Pagano broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 54th minute and the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs (2-0) hung on for a 1-0 win over Lakeland (0-3).

Cross country

Coeur d’Alene’s boys and girls took home team titles at the Bonners Ferry Invitational.

Cody Helbling of Lake City won the boys race with a time of 16 minutes, 33 seconds, while CdA’s Kinsey Gomez topped the girls field in 19:25.

Football

The Timberlake Tigers romped to a 42-14 victory over visiting Libby (Mont.) in a non-league season opener.
