In brief: City budget hearing set

COEUR D’ALENE – A public hearing to discuss the 2009-’10 budget is planned Tuesday in the Library Community Room at City Hall at 6 p.m.

Coeur d’Alene Mayor Sandi Bloom recently announced that no decision had been made on seeking a budget increase and she had requested that city staff prepare a proposed budget for the 2009-’10 fiscal year that contains no increase in tax revenue. Other options include a 2 percent increase and will be presented to the mayor and City Council at the public hearing.

Labor Day festivities set

SPIRIT LAKE – “Labor Day on the Grass” kicks off Thursday with the Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce’s annual Wine Tasting and Auction at the little park on Maine Street. The event begins at 6 p.m. with live music, local wines and microbrews.

A bike ride benefiting the Spirit Lake Parks and Recreation Commission is set for Saturday morning. Following a pancake breakfast provided by Calvary Christian Fellowship, participants will travel by bus to the Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park and ride back to Spirit Lake along 20 miles of easy, downhill logging roads.

Tickets for the ride, which includes a souvenir T-Shirt, are $35 each.

A talent show and salmon dinner are planned for 6 p.m. Saturday evening with musicians, jugglers, comedians, dancers and magicians vying for cash prizes.

Sunday’s events include a car show at City Park and classic rock music by the J.W. Hardin Band and Muddy Frog Watters.

Sept. 7 is the town’s annual Labor Day parade on Maine Street.
