Region in brief: Alleged drunken driver easily caught
An allegedly drunken driver didn’t wait for police to come to her early Sunday.
Apryl Pollard, 28, drove her 1995 Chevrolet pickup right to them, steering the vehicle onto a sidewalk outside the Public Safety Building, around cement security barriers and over to the west entrance of the county jail before turning around and stopping near Spokane police headquarters, authorities said.
Officers approached Pollard, who was in the truck, about 2:15 a.m. and took her into custody on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the Spokane Police Department.
Family unharmed in North Side fire
A north Spokane family escaped unharmed early Sunday from their burning home.
The 4:50 a.m. blaze at 6002 N. Forest Blvd. was extinguished in about 20 minutes by Spokane firefighters, said Assistant Chief Brian Schaeffer. Firefighters were able to get tarps placed over much of the home’s contents, which helped limit damage to about $50,000, Schaeffer said.
Cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday afternoon.
Police searching for coffee stand robber
Authorities are looking for a balding, acne-scarred gunman who robbed a Coeur d’Alene coffee stand this weekend.
No injuries were reported in the Saturday evening holdup at Dutch Bros. Coffee, 1680 Northwest Blvd., according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. Officers were summoned about 8:35 p.m. after a clerk reported being robbed at gunpoint by a man who walked up to the drive-through window and demanded money.
The robber fled east along Mill Avenue on foot, authorities said. A Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit tracked the robber’s path to the intersection with Melrose Street, where the dog apparently lost the scent.
The robber was described as a balding white male, about 19 to 20 years old, with acne scars on both cheeks, according to police. He’s about 5-foot-10 with a slender build and was wearing a blue and brown cap and black hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked by police to call investigators at (208) 769-2320.
