Panthers pull away from ’Cats

For 2½ quarters, Mead’s girls were caught up in a taut basketball game at rival Mt. Spokane.

But a third-quarter run gave the Panthers (2-0) breathing room and they went on to a 63-51 victory Friday night over the Wildcats in a non-league game.

A few steals paved the way to a 20-8 third quarter as Mead went from a three-point lead at intermission to a 15-point advantage through three quarters.

Veterans Jazmine Redmon and Taylor Ingebritsen provided the lift. Redmon scored 22 points and Ingebritsen added 15.

The Wildcats (0-4) got a balanced scoring effort from three players, although Sammie Pedersen, who shared high-point honors with Holleigh Bergstrom at 11, got into foul trouble in the second quarter.

Shadle Park 64, Ferris 46: Coming off a one-point loss three days earlier, Shadle Park evened its record.

Led by the inside work of Aleisha Hathaway, the Highlanders (1-1) pulled away from Ferris in the third quarter en route to the triumph.

Hathaway pulled down 10 rebounds and finished with 20 points. Complementing her was Kendra Knutsen, who scored 13.

The team started quickly, pouring in 20 first-quarter points at Ferris and putting the game away with an 18-8 third-period run.

Ferris (1-3) got a couple of 3-pointers from Jozlin Hicks and another by Haley Sieverding, both part of a balanced four-person effort.

Lewis and Clark 73, East Valley 51: It was a vintage performance by the Tigers (2-1), whose pressure created turnovers and provided them a 45-21 halftime cushion at EV (0-3). Nine players had a hand in the victory, with Devyn Galland and Mary Blevins scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. Faith Proctor and Abong Taka divided up 20 rebounds equally. Jenni White carried the load for the Knights with 22 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and 8-for-8 free-throw shooting.

University 39, North Central 36: The visiting Titans (2-1) had a huge fourth quarter to avoid a loss. The Indians (2-2) carried a nine-point lead built by halftime through the third quarter. But U-Hi pressured the hosts into numerous turnovers and outscored them 15-3 over the final 8 minutes to pull out the victory. Four-year veteran Zoe Scott led the way on defense and freshman Hallie Gennett provided an offensive lift, scoring 10 points. Tara VanWeerdhuizen scored a dozen for NC.

Central Valley 57, Rogers 8: The visiting Bears (2-1) shut out the Pirates (0-4) in the first and fourth quarters and led 34-2 at the half. Nine CV players scored.
