Lake City, Fernan students focus on giving during holiday season
Students in the Coeur d’Alene School District are helping those in need this holiday season.
At Lake City High School, teams, clubs, classes, students and their families have signed up for the “Adopt-A-Family” program. With the help of the LCHS students, their families, and faculty, needy families in the community will be able to have a Christmas this year.
LCHS is also collecting toys for the Hayden Kinder Center and for students at Ramsey Elementary. Donations are welcome and may be dropped off at the office at Lake City. Donations will be collected on Thursday
The fifth-grade Leadership Team at Fernan Elementary put together the Giving Tree and is collecting items for the women’s shelter.
Fernan students can take ornaments from the tree in the school foyer and purchase the items written on the ornament for the shelter.
The Leadership Team also organized a food drive for the Coeur d’Alene Food Bank and will be collecting food through Wednesday. The students have a goal to collect 1,000 food items. Boxes are located in the hallways and donations will be accepted from the community.
The fourth-graders at Fernan are collecting toys for kids who are in the hospital this holiday season. For more information on how you can help Fernan students, call the office at (208) 664-2659.
‘Carol’ coming to Ramsey
On Tuesday, Ramsey Elementary students will have the opportunity to enjoy the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.” CYT-North Idaho will bring their traveling performance to the school at 2 p.m.
135,000 pennies go a long way
The Hayden Kinder Center’s recent Penny Drive raised more than $1,350 and will allow the school to purchase alphabet rugs for the school’s classrooms. The center will purchase a rocking chair for the new library if there is money remaining after the rugs are purchased.
The center also held a book drive recently, collecting more than 3,800 books.
The school donated approximately 1,000 books to the food bank and 100 to St. Vincent de Paul. The remaining books will build the Kinder Center’s school library.
