Titans win tournament

The seventh-ranked University Titans knocked off the top-ranked Lake Stevens Vikings at the Viking Invitational wrestling meet Wednesday in Lake Stevens, Wash.

The Titans used first-place finishes from 152-pounder Ryan Zumwalt, Jacob Mason (160) and Jacob Laden (285) and runner-up efforts by Robert Clark (112), Jacob Fry (171), Dustin Johnson (189) and Dalton Cosby (285) to outpoint Lake Stevens 218-208.

University and Lake Stevens also wrestled a dual meet Tuesday and tied 29-29. The Vikings were declared the winners, but it had to go to the seventh tiebreaker criteria to settle matters.

Freeman Invitational: The Coeur d’Alene Vikings had six individual champions en route to winning the tourney.

The Vikings easily outdistanced runner-up Kettle Falls 155-121.

Winners for CdA were: A.J. Konda (112); Jesse Thompson (140); Garrett Demers (160); Trevor Zykowski (189); Alex Kastens (215); and Thomas Tucker (275).

Hanford Winter Cup: Shadle Park’s Darren Bunke (130) and Dylan Lemery (189) won individual titles in Richland. East Valley placed second to Othello. Republic’s Scotty Bacon (145) also won. Othello won the 17-team tourney. Shadle was third.
