Waves push aside GU
This time, there was no gallant comeback.
Alex Jarrell scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting and the Pepperdine Waves handed the Gonzaga Bulldogs their second West Coast Conference women’s basketball loss, 72-62 at Malibu, Calif., on Saturday.
For the second straight game, the Bulldogs were on the wrong end of a double-digit lead at the half. But unlike Thursday, when Gonzaga rallied from 15 points down to beat Loyola Marymount 81-78, this rally fell short.
Pepperdine (15-11, 8-4) led 41-31 at the half.
Heather Bowman had 22 points and eight rebounds and Courtney Vandersloot had 19 points and eight assists for Gonzaga (22-6, 10-2).
Northern Colorado 80, Eastern Washington 58: At Greeley, Colo., Kate Kevorken scored 29 points and had nine rebounds and the Bears (12-14, 5-7) used a 21-0 first-half run to overpower the Eagles (10-16, 5-8), damaging EWU’s Big Sky Conference playoff aspirations.
Nicole Scott led the Eagles with 11 points and seven rebounds. Julie Piper and Kyla Evans put in 10 points apiece and Chene Cooper dished out four assists.
Columbia Basin 55, CC Spokane 46: At Pasco, Jordan Brown scored 12 points and Lauren Rada had 10 to lead the Hawks (17-9, 9-4) to an NWAACC victory over the Sasquatch (15-10, 8-5). Kelsey Stillar had 13 points for CCS.
