Crime slows down as snow falls

Heavy snowfall led to another quiet week from Dec. 8 to 15 for the Liberty Lake Police Department, unless you count the number of stuck motorists officers helped on their way.

Only two arrests were made during the week. A Spokane woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license and a Liberty Lake man was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree assault.

A car was broken into in the Safeway parking lot the evening of Dec. 21 and a laptop computer, flashlights and two knives were stolen. The break-in wasn’t reported to police until the morning of Dec. 22. Several weather-related collisions and slide-offs were reported during the week.

Six prohibited parking citations were given to cars parked in the vicinity of Mission and Pepper Lane the afternoon of Dec. 27. Additional citations were given for failure to show liability insurance, speeding and speeding too fast for conditions.

Officers responded to calls for domestic violence and auto theft. Five commercial vehicle inspections were conducted.
