OUTLOOK: The Cougars conclude a three-game, Pac-10-opening homestand by facing the conference’s two surprise teams. The Bears, under first-year – but veteran – head coach Mike Montgomery, lead the nation in 3-point shooting percentage (50.5 percent). Cal (13-2, 2-0) also boasts this week’s Pac-10 player of the week, Patrick Christopher, and the conference’s current breakout star, point guard Jerome Randle. Randle leads the NCAA in 3-point shooting percentage. The Cardinal (11-1, 1-1) also have a first-year head coach, former Duke assistant Johnny Dawkins, and he’s brought an up-tempo game from Durham, N.C.
