In brief: Junior Wrestling signups set

Registration for Spokane Junior Wrestling, a developmental program for kindergarten through sixth grade, is scheduled Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at area high schools.

Participants should register at the high school in their district: Central Valley, East Valley, Ferris, Gonzaga Prep, Lewis and Clark, Mead, Mt. Spokane, North Central, Rogers, Shadle Park, University and West Valley. Practices will be twice during the week and there will be four Saturday tournaments, held in March.

Cost is $50, which includes tournament fees, club T-shirt, officials, awards and insurance. In addition, SJW singlets are required for tournaments. Cost for singlets is $20 used or $30 new.

Children’s Theatre plans auditions

The Spokane Children’s Theatre will hold auditions for its production of “Bridge to Terabithia” on Saturday at 3 p.m. and on Monday 7 p.m. The auditions will be at Spokane Community College in the Lair Auditorium, 1810 N. Greene St.

Roles are for ages 7 to adult. Most roles are nonsinging, but four lead roles require strong singers. Director Reed McColm is also seeking a dog of “less than pure lineage.”

Performances will be March 7 through March 22.

SFCC to host financial aid forum

Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will host “College Goal Sunday” on Jan. 25, part of a statewide event to provide high school students and their families with information and opportunities for financial aid for college. The informational fair will begin at 2 p.m. and will be held in SFCC’s Student Union Building Lounges A and B, in Building 17.

Financial aid specialists will be available to answer questions and help students and their families complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form, necessary for the college financial aid process.

Senior center plans travel fair

The Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave., will host a travel fair Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.

The Ticket to Ride event will include a free continental breakfast, along with the opportunity to look over 100 day trips, 25 overnight trips, and a number of weeklong getaways in the United States and abroad. Vacation experts and travel leaders will be on hand to answer questions. Registration will be available on the day of the fair.

Travel incentives and prizes include a free day trip with a purchase of any combination of trips worth $150 and a chance to win a seven-night hotel stay to a destination of choice.

Finance education classes offered

Community Frameworks, 315 W. Mission Ave., will hold another educational session to help homebuyers understand credit, personal finances and mortgage lending Wednesday at 6 p.m.

“Mortgage Basics” is part of a three-class series that also includes “Understanding Credit,” on Feb. 18 and “Managing your Finances,” on April 15.

The sessions are free, but registration is required.
