Suspect sought in early-morning stabbing

Police are searching for a suspect in the early morning stabbing death of a Spokane man. The weapon that killed Shannon Cochran, 22, has not been located, said Lt. Dave McGovern. About 2:30 a.m., police were called to the area of East Garland Avenue and North Helena Street on a reported argument. Cochran and possibly two other men then engaged in a fight with four or five other people, McGovern said. Police found Cochran with stab wounds. He died at a local hospital. A man who was with Cochran has talked to police, but at this point, authorities do not know who the four or five people in the fight are, McGovern said. A third person, who was with Cochran, is sought by police. According to police records, Cochran had a warrant for his arrest for domestic violence. His criminal record showed a history of assault and domestic violence, officials said.
