In brief: Fire chief earns CFO designation

Cheney Fire Chief Mike Winters has earned the designation of Chief Fire Officer by the Commission on Professional Credentialing.

Winters is one of 600 CFOs worldwide and received this designation after his education, experience, professional development, technical competencies, contributions to the profession and community involvement were assessed.

Applicants also are required to identify a future professional development plan.

Winters has been the fire chief in Cheney for two years.

Cancer awareness planned at games

Cheney High School will hold Breast Cancer Awareness Night Tuesday during the varsity boys and girls basketball games against Deer Park.

Breast cancer T-shirts will be available for $10; only 150 are available. Orders will be taken in advance by calling 559-4000.

Other items for sale at the high school are cancer-awareness bracelets for $2 and two pink ribbon bows for $1.

Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Both games will be played at Cheney High. The girls game begins at 5:45 p.m.; the boys at 7:30.
