Tournaments next for baseball, softball
Postseason tourneys for Spokane Valley Baseball and Girls Softball Association leagues begin next week. All teams will be involved in respective single- or double- elimination events.
Heading into the final two games of the scheduled baseball season (plus a handful of rainouts to be made up), teams from Liberty Lake, Spokane Athletic Supply and Blasingame Insurance had 9-0 records to lead the Midget and Pee Wee leagues by a game over American On-Site Services (Pasadena Park) in the older league and Leo’s Photography (Sunrise 2) in the younger.
Midget League: Among weekly highlights, George Velis DDS (Chester) pulled into a third-place tie with Spokane Endodontics (Ponderosa) with a 6-1 victory. Both teams are 7-2. Nate Tesdahl and Isaiah Crane each pitched three innings, allowing only a first-inning run. Tesdahl struck out six and was also 3-for-3 with a triple and, while catching, threw out a pair of base stealers. Velis also topped Grocery Outlet (Ness/Orchard Center) 5-3 as Tesdahl doubled and drove in three runs.
American On-Site had 14 hits in a victory over Trent/Skyview from seven players including Mark Oestreich’s 3-for-3 effort. Trent’s Tommy Schaaf hit a two-run double in a win over Intermountain Fabricators (Adams).
Pee Wee League: Blasingame Insurance also remained unbeaten in Liberty Lake, with 7-5 and 12-4 victories. Zachary Stocker struck out eight in the first victory. Benjamin Herndon had two hits including a double in the other.
Mark Spear Homeselling (Chester 1) remained in the hunt at 7-3, splitting games. Caleb Thomas (five runs batted in) and Eric Adams (three RBIs) had three hits each in victory. Autocraft (Greenacres) beat them 13-9, Alex Biglin and Carson O’Neill combining for 11 strikeouts, while Rhett Foley homered and doubled among four hits and drove in four runs.
Cruze Bale struck out six, and Ryan Leifer homered and drove in three runs for Pasadena Park.
Valley Girls Softball
Races remain tight in the various divisions with only three teams still unbeaten. Two, Jewell Excavating and Old Country Buffet, are perfect in the 14U League. McDonald’s is unbeaten in 10U.
16U League: League leader Farrell Spray Services and second-place Home Run Construction each has a loss. Farrell (7-1) beat Burlington Northern Santa Fe 5-2 and Awardmasters 11-0. Home Run won 11-1 over Awardmasters and 12-2 over Tri Diamond. Vanessa Purcell doubled twice, tripled and singled in the first game. Ynasia VanKomen hit four doubles.
14U League: Jewell Excavating was 7-0 and Old Country Buffet 6-0 in latest reports. OCB’s Jessica Mitchell struck out 10 and hit a triple and double in one victory and Emily Conant was 3-for-3.
12U League: This league is wide open with five teams virtually tied with two losses apiece and a couple of others a game behind. Mega Wash (5-2) got an 11-strikeout performance from Aubrey West, and a 3-for-3 at bat by Kelce Knaeble. Sir Speedy’s (5-2) Lexi Ivankovich hit a grand slam home run and AnnDee Myers drove in four more.
10U League: McDonald’s leads three teams by a game with four to play. Among last week’s highlights, Eden McMaster of Rocky Mountain Chocolate had three hits and drove in two runs. Ameristar Meats’ Kassidy Keller had two hits and a big defensive catch. Awardmasters’ Elle Knopp was 2-for-3, while BNSF’s Madeline Liberg and Sophia Henson turned a double play.
