Matchups set for AA Legion tourney

The pairings for the AA American Legion state baseball tournament were released Tuesday.

Four local teams made the field of 16 and will play at two sites – University High School and Cheney High School – beginning Saturday.

The Mt. Spokane Wild, who edged the Ferris Saxons 3-2 Monday in the league title game on Alex Allard’s two-out bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, will open against the Chehalis Lizards at 2:30 p.m. at U-Hi.

The host U-Hi Titans play the final first-round game against the Yakima Valley Peppers at 5 p.m.

The other two games at U-Hi are Olympic versus Lakeside Newport at 9 a.m. and Capital versus Burlington at 11:30.

Ferris opens play at Cheney with a 2:30 game against Lakeside Skyline.

The host Cheney Summer Hawks close out first-round play against the Kennewick Bandits at 5 p.m.

The other two games at Cheney are Graham-Kapowsin versus the Kennewick Dusters at 9 a.m. and Anacortes versus North Kitsap at 11:30.

•The Spokane RiverHawks jumped out to an early four-run lead and hung on for a 4-3 road win over the Kelowna Falcons in West Coast League play.

Jake Perkins earned the victory and Paul Sewald notched a save for Spokane (15-18). Kelowna fell to 16-15 on the season.
