Man held in gun incident

From Staff Reports

Spokane police arrested a 22-year-old man early this morning for allegedly shooting a handgun from his second-story window on the 400 block of East Nora Avenue.

Jamar C. Smith was booked into Spokane County Jail for aiming or discharging a firearm after officers found a loaded handgun inside the house he was renting and several spent bullet casings in the yard, police said.

A neighbor called police to report hearing gunshots. When an officer arrived, he heard two gunshots and immediately called for backup, according to police. The officer then heard four additional gunshots.

While containing the area, officers heard the sound of a gun being loaded and confirmed the sound emanated from 408 E. Nora Ave., police said.

Teen arrested in CdA crash

A Spokane teenager was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge in Coeur d’Alene Thursday night after a two-car crash that sent the other driver to the hospital.

Coeur d’Alene police said the 17-year-old was driving quickly on Northwest Boulevard in a Ford Escort about 8 p.m. when she hit a GMC Jimmy, causing it to overturn and roll. The accident shut down the boulevard for about two hours.

The driver of the 1996 Jimmy, Coeur d’Alene resident Sonya Schy, 36, was taken to Kootenai Medical Center, where she was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police took the teen to Kootenai County Juvenile Detention Center. She had three teenage passengers at the time of the collision, none of whom was hurt.

Drug patch theft nets prison

A Spokane man who stole prescription drug patches from nursing homes to get high will spend eight months in prison.

Cory R. Morse, 22, will begin his sentence Wednesday, Judge Maryann Moreno ruled Friday.

Morse and his girlfriend, Lacey B. Sell, 20, were arrested in January after a three-week investigation into missing fentanyl patches at adult care facilities. Police alleged the two stole patches from the bodies of more than a dozen people.

Morse pleaded guilty this week to burglary charges related to that case, as well as manufacturing a controlled substance for 15 marijuana plants police found when they raided his house in the 2110 block of West Mission.

Sell’s trial is set for July 20.
