Man arrested after roommate stabbed

A Spokane man stabbed another man in the neck during a fight at a downtown motel early Monday, police said. Coleby A. Richards, 24, appeared in Spokane County Superior Court via video on one count of first-degree assault about 10 hours after his arrest at The Downtowner, 165 S. Washington St. Police found the victim, Jason R. Staggs, 28, lying in the parking lot bleeding from the neck, court papers show. A black knife was recovered from the room Richards, the victim and two others had been renting since June 4, police said. Staggs remained in the Deaconess Medical Center emergency room Monday evening. Richards’ bond was set at $75,000 for the first-degree assault charge, and $2,650 for four warrants, including trespassing and lewdness.
