Three things we’ll be talking about this week

1 Cue Alice Cooper: The school year ended last week for most North Idaho students, while school ends next week in all the big Spokane districts. Snow make-up days extended the school year in almost all cases. Spokane Public Schools students, don’t get too comfortable: You’re first back in the fall, on Aug. 27.

2 The Spokane City Council is expected to decide tonight whether to sell part of the old Playfair horse-racing track. The city bought the property in 2004 and will keep part of the land for a storm water storage project. The top offer for the property is from SCAFCO, a Spokane Valley-based manufacturer, which hopes to bring about 100 jobs to the property initially.

3 Adventure Sports Week kicked off Friday at Farragut State Park and will continue through Sunday. Events include adventure races – a combination of mountain biking, trail running, kayaking and orienteering – plus trail runs, a distance swim, a paddling event and duathlon. Organizers expected about 1,000 people to take part.
