Athletes will mentor kids
Children with disabilities can participate in several sports under the direction of world-class athletes in Spokane in next month’s National Veterans Wheelchair Games.
On July 17, the athletes will mentor area children ages 6 to 16 in events such as T-ball, basketball and wheelchair slalom. Kids Day 2009 will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Spokane Falls Community College.
Parents can register their children for the event by contacting Suzanne Bennatt at (509) 434-7670 or by e-mailing her at suzanne.bennatt@va.gov.
The National Veterans Wheelchair Games, in Spokane from July 13 to July 18, constitute the world’s largest annual wheelchair sports competition, with more than 600 athletes from North America and Great Britain.
