Robertson will miss season
Baseball: Spokane Indians radio broadcaster Bob Robertson (above) will miss this season in order to spend time with his wife, Joanne, at their home in Tacoma as she recovers from health issues, the team announced.
“Bob Robertson will always have a lifetime contract with the Spokane Indians,” said senior vice president Otto Klein. “We can’t wait to see Bob back up in the Avista Stadium press box next season.”
Robertson became the Indians’ broadcaster in 1999. He has also been the play-by-play announcer for Washington State University the past 42 years.
Bob Castle will fill in on an interim basis for Robertson until he returns.
Castle is the program director for KGA 1510-AM, which carries Indians games.
Castle filled in periodically for Robertson last season. He is the voice of Whitworth University football and basketball.
Former Husky sentenced
Football: Former Washington basketball player Doug Wrenn was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison Friday morning for threatening two people with a handgun during a March 2008 road rage incident in Bellevue.
Wrenn said he was prepared to go to jail, but maintained his innocence despite being convicted on two counts of second-degree assault.
“I’m an innocent man,” he said standing in front of a small contingent of family and friends. “I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sorry all this took place, but … an innocent man is going to go to prison.”
Wrenn, a registered gun owner, admitted he engaged in a verbal confrontation, but said there wasn’t a gun in his car. He said he was pointing a cell phone while police discovered a .40 caliber Beretta handgun inside his apartment several minutes after the incident.
Wrenn, who attended O’Dea High School, played two seasons with the Huskies and was chosen first-team All-Pac-10 as a sophomore following the 2001-02 season. He declared for the NBA draft after his junior year.
