State workers won’t escape

The Spokesman-Review

State employees share the burden of budget cuts with Washington state’s most vulnerable citizens.

It was suggested that, rather than increasing rates paid by Basic Health participants, state employees pay more for their health coverage.

The article in which the suggestion appeared did not include this information: While the monthly paycheck contribution toward health care was not increased for state employees, $200 million was cut from the fund that pays for state employees’ health benefits. The ramifications of this budgetary deletion are not yet clear, but it is a virtual certainty that state employees will be paying more for health coverage.
