In brief: Teenage girl identified in fatal lake accident
Authorities Monday identified the girl who died Saturday of injuries in personal watercraft accident as Alicia Edgell, 14, of Coeur d’Alene.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reported that Edgell was riding near the Third Street docks in Coeur d’Alene when she swerved suddenly and was thrown from the craft. Deputies said she struck another vessel, suffering head and internal injuries.
No citations were issued in the accident, police said.
Francis Avenue slated for repairs westbound
Street construction in northwest Spokane is growing more troublesome for drivers.
Westbound lanes of Francis Avenue from Wall Street to Indian Trail Road will undergo traffic reductions this week while city crews do repair work. Motorists should anticipate delays, officials said.
This comes as Alberta Street is closed for reconstruction from Wellesley to Francis avenues, including its intersection with Rowan Avenue. Five Mile Road is also closed in sections for improvements.
Bonners Ferry, Athol men die in accidents
Two men were killed in separate traffic incidents over the weekend in North Idaho.
On Sunday, Keith L. Blockham, 48, of Bonners Ferry, was headed north on U.S. Highway 95 at milepost 518 when he lost control of his 1980 Chevrolet El Camino, going off the east shoulder and rolling the vehicle once about 9:30 p.m., the Idaho State Police said. Blockham died at the scene.
He was not wearing a seat belt. Police said alcohol was a factor.
On Saturday, James C. Mitchell, 48, of Athol, was killed about 2 p.m. while riding his 1994 Kawasaki motorcycle on Prichard Creek Road at milepost 4.
The ISP said Mitchell was headed west when he crossed the centerline on a curve and lost control of his motorcycle. Mitchell went into the path of a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 51-year-old Silverton, Idaho, man, who was not injured.
Counseling center fire under investigation
Fire investigators are looking into a suspicious blaze that broke out early Monday at the entrance to New Horizon Counseling Services in West Central Spokane.
Firefighters reported that the blaze was spreading quickly on the exterior of the building, 1708 W. Mission Ave., when they arrived about 12:20 a.m.
The fire went into a soffit area above the front door and into the building’s attic, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage.
Reward offered for tips on loan store robbery
A man robbed a payday loan store Friday, and Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that helps identify a suspect.
Officers responding to an alarm at the Cash Store, 1509 N. Pines Road, about 6 p.m. found a female clerk locked inside crying, according to Crime Stoppers.
The woman said a black man in his late 20s or early 30s stole cash after patting his left side and saying he had a gun, a news release said. The man ran westbound on Maxwell Avenue into an apartment complex parking lot, police said.
The robber wore a navy or black long-sleeved jacket and black gloves with mirrored sunglasses and a Jamaican-style hat over dreadlocks that may have been a wig.

Tips lead to arrest in Walgreens robbery
Tips based on surveillance photos from a June 7 robbery at the South Hill Walgreens led to the arrest of a suspect Friday.
Terran D. Schatz, 23, is being held in Spokane County Jail on $125,000 bail. He is the third man accused of robbing that pharmacy in the past several months.
Schatz is accused of robbing the store of OxyContin, a narcotic. He was arrested Friday night after a police officer contacted him in a car at Liberty Lake Park and recognized his name, police said.
Adam J. Dally, 25, was arrested in April on suspicion of committing a December robbery at the same store. Richard T. Ludvik, 23, is charged with robbing the store in January.
Schatz’s criminal record includes convictions for possession of a controlled substance and reckless endangerment. He appeared in Spokane County Superior Court via video Monday.
Boy, 12, arrested in Wal-Mart blaze
Spokane fire investigators arrested a 12-year-old boy for allegedly setting fire to a large storage unit outside a Wal-Mart earlier this month.
The boy was booked into juvenile detention on a charge of second-degree arson, according to the Spokane Fire Department. The fire, set about 3 a.m. on June 10 outside the Wal-Mart at 2301 W. Wellesley Ave., caused an estimated $7,500 in damage.
