Goods collected for wounded troops

A Spokane-based charity will collect clothes and other supplies for wounded military personnel in Germany, and the Washington Air National Guard will fly the items most of the way to their destination.

Operation Spokane Heroes announced Thursday an effort to collect new T-shirts, flip-flops, basketball shorts, sweat pants, bath towels and face cloths for wounded service members at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. Wounded troops often arrive from the field without personal belongings.

The 141st Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild Air Force Base has a two-tanker deployment to Geilenkirchen, Germany, as part of a NATO exercise, Lt. Col. Nancy Reid Isaak said, and will take the collected items with it.

Staff from the Wounded Warrior Program will get them the remaining 200 miles.

Drop-off locations for donated goods: Downtown Holiday Inn Express, 801 N. Division St.; Valley Holiday Inn Express, at 9220 E. Mission Ave.
