Bible school week begins Monday

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host a weeklong vacation Bible school session beginning Monday. Classes will be held daily from 9 a.m. to noon for children age 4 through the fifth grade. Sale features kids’ clothing, toys

Just Between Friends will have a consignment sale event at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St., today, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The “All Seasons” event will include gently used infant and juniors clothing; nursery and maternity items; books, games and toys for babies; furniture; and more.

Cost is $4 per person, and children 12 and younger are admitted free. Admission on Sunday is free.

Aid offered to help teens learn Chinese

The Gonzaga University Startalk Program has 20 scholarships available for high school students to study Chinese this summer.

The Startalk scholarship will cover half of the tuition, books, lab fee, lunch and other costs. Total cost of the program to the student will be $370. The six-week program starts June 29.

Camp Sekani hosts outdoor fun day

On July 11, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., residents can come together for a day of outdoor activities at Camp Sekani.

Activities planned include canoeing and kayaking, archery, rock climbing, fly fishing and hiking. A raffle also will be held. Prizes are adventure-themed and include a canoe trip through the Little Spokane River nature preserve and a private snowshoe trip on Mount Spokane. Raffle tickets are $5 for five tickets and proceeds benefit the Inland Northwest Trails Coalition to continue work in securing and maintaining trails and open space.

Cost is $15 per person. Families of five admitted for $35; $5 for each additional person. Food and refreshments will not be provided.

Fundraiser offers salon services

Dimensions Salon, 14109 E. Sprague Ave., and Candlelighters of the Inland Northwest are hosting the second annual Services Marathon on June 28, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Participants can come to the salon and get a haircut and style, half-hour pedicure, half-hour massage or half-hour hand and paraffin treatment with hand massage and polish, for $15 each.

All proceeds will benefit Candlelighters to help local kids with cancer and their families.

Shields honored by Valley chamber

Cindra Shields, the owner of Graphic Business Systems, recently received the first Power Woman Award at the Power Women’s Summit, held at the Mirabeau Park Hotel. The award was presented by the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, recognizing an outstanding woman in business.

The annual tribute is awarded to a local woman who demonstrates creativity, inspires her peers, has mastered the art of multitasking and is respected in her industry.

Shields began her career in the publishing industry in California in 1988. She received Volunteer of the Year Award in 2000 from the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce, where she later joined the chamber staff as creative director. As director she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for Newsletter, for the organization’s publications division she created. Shields opened a business in Spokane in 2003 and became the publisher of Remodel Spokane in 2006. She was honored in 2007 by the Spokane Home Builders Association with the Presidents Award for Outstanding Service to the building industry.
