Purchasing The Dolphins are merging with Miami Sound Machine and Margaritaville. Singer Gloria Estefan and her husband, producer Emilio Estefan, are buying a “very small” ownership stake in the NFL team, a person familiar with the deal said Monday. The person requested anonymity person because the deal won’t be announced until Thursday by owner Stephen Ross. Ross began a partnership in May with Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville enterprise, which includes Land Shark Lager.
Agreed Tulsa basketball coach Doug Wojcik has agreed to a new six-year contract to remain with the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa athletic director Bubba Cunningham said the new deal adds a two-year extension to Wojcik’s previous contract, which now runs through the 2014-15 season. Because Tulsa is a private school, other details of the contract were not revealed.
Extended Cincinnati has given football coach Brian Kelly a contract extension, adding a year at nearly $1.5 million. The school said that Kelly is guaranteed $1.475 million to coach the Bearcats through the 2013 season. He had been signed through 2012.
Named The Atlanta Thrashers have named former Chicago Blackhawks executive Rick Dudley as associate general manager. Thrashers executive vice president and general manager Don Waddell says Dudley will oversee scouting and player development for the NHL team.
Retired Veteran defensive tackle La’Roi Glover is retiring after 13 NFL seasons. Glover, who turns 35 on July 4, spent the past three seasons with the St. Louis Rams. He was not re-signed following the 2008 season, when he had 30 tackles only one-half sack.
