More sunny days ahead

Hoopfest highs in the lower 80s

A string of sunny days and clear nights should hold over the region through most of next week as the northern storm track settles into a calmer summer pattern. Highs today in the middle 70s in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene should warm by several degrees to reach the lower and middle 80s over Hoopfest weekend in Spokane. Forecasters said breezy conditions should continue today, and may return again on Sunday as energy from weak low pressure systems stirs the atmosphere. Saturday should be calm and summer-like. A dry cold front on Sunday could whip up gusts during the day. A string of mostly dry days has allowed potential fuels in the region’s forests to dry out enough that fire conditions are now starting to become a concern, the National Weather Service said. But dry weather and potential winds on Sunday still have not reached the level of a “red flag” alert, forecasters said. Looking ahead to next week, forecasters are calling for sun and clear skies with temperatures near normal. In Spokane, the normal temperatures for today are 77 for a high and 51 for a low. The high on Thursday was 73 at Spokane International Airport. At 7 a.m. today, temperatures were 52 at the airport, 56 in Coeur d’Alene, 55 in Sandpoint, 54 in Pullman, 51 in Cheney and 52 in Deer Park.
