Changes made at baseball league

Spokane Valley Baseball, the venerable area summer youth organization, has undergone some changes this year.

The league office has moved to 101 N. Bowdish Road, at Tom’s Barber Shop, and SVB has reorganized its board of directors.

Bill Kreider remains on the board, joined by his son, Chris Kreider, and Cory Aiken. Sarah Kreider and Yvonne Aiken are office managers.

The office opened for registration on Tuesday; hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. The season runs from mid-June through the end of July.

“Every team will be in the playoffs this year,” said Bill Kreider, “and will have at least 12 games. We’re trying to push the summer nature of the league.”

Fliers are out in Valley schools and day cares. Registration forms have been sent out to all returning players and are available for download on the league’s Web site, spokanevalleybaseball.com.

Rotary grant goes to Valley Partners

The Spokane Valley Rotary Club recently awarded a $14,000 grant to Spokane Valley Partners for the organization’s Seniors in Need Emergency Assistance Program. The program provides help with things like prescriptions, energy bills, emergency medical needs, transportation and emergency household repairs. In 2008 the program assisted 169 seniors.

The grant is being awarded in two portions, the first of which has already been received by Valley Partners. Those seeking assistance from the program can visit 10814 E. Broadway, or call (509) 927-1153.

Millwood

Farmers Market poster contest

The Millwood Farmers Market is holding a poster contest open to West Valley School District students. Winning posters will be featured in this year’s promotional materials. The poster must be on an 8 1/2- by 11-inch piece of paper and include the words “Millwood Farmers Market, Wednesdays 3-7 p.m.” and “May 20 – September 30.” Submissions can be created with paint, crayon, marker or colored pencil. No computer graphics or clip art are allowed.

Organizers are looking for a poster that celebrates the character of the city of Millwood and the fresh fruits and vegetables available at the market. Judges will be looking for bright colors, creativity and readable text. Winners will be selected in the fifth grade and below age group and the grades 6-12 age group. Prizes will be awarded.

Submissions should be dropped off at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, by April 20. The student’s name, school, grade and phone number must be attached. Call the church at (509) 924-2350 for more information.
