Police get a walk
Many years ago I took a job selling vacuums. It lasted three days because I couldn’t stomach the sales techniques used to entrap customers. I was disgusted and amazed at how the customer became a victim by salespeople using their skills to funnel the client into a sale.
I believe this is exactly what happened in the Jay Olsen trial. As most Spokanites know, Olsen is a cop. Operating under the influence of alcohol (which the jury had to ignore), Olsen was forgiven by a jury for shooting an innocent man in the head.
The outcome of this trial could have been predicted. With over 30 instructions to the jury, they were left with the only decision they could reach: acquittal of the officer.
So a gun-carrying, alcohol-loving, trigger-happy cop works the streets of Spokane and we all should feel safer? I don’t think so.
In 20 years living in Spokane I’ve seen too many instances where police officers shoot first and think later. Too many innocent citizens have needlessly died without anyone being held accountable.
Your innocence no longer matters. If a Spokane cop shoots you, they will walk free.
We should all be afraid.
